B. Braun Chairman elected as ‘Guardian’ by Sheffield Assay Office

Chief Executive, Hans Hux, has been elected as a ‘Guardian’ by Sheffield Assay Office thanks to his ‘unrivalled expertise’ in his industry.

The official role of ‘Guardian of the Standard of Wrought Plate within the town of Sheffield’ was created by an Act of Parliament in 1773 and has similar qualities to that of a Trustee.

A total of 30 Guardians work to help and support the Assay Office and are responsible for ensuring that it remains in Sheffield. The position is held for four years after which point the Guardian can stand for re-election.

Assay Master Ashley Carson said: “Within the office we’re trying to break out and diversify into new areas of business away from our legal responsibility to test and apply hallmarks to Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium.

“We are increasing our business of independent testing in the medical industry which means Hans Hux’s unrivalled expertise in the industry will be a fantastic addition to the skills set that current Guardian’s already have.

“We know how busy Hans is, and we were absolutely delighted when he accepted the position.”

The appointment follows Hans’ being recognised by the Sheffield Chamber Hall of Fame Award in October.

Hans said: “I am very proud to have been asked to undertake this role.

“With my experience in the health sector, I hope to be able bring some new insight and ideas to the position and having lived and worked in Sheffield for a large portion of my life, it really is a city I love and cherish – this role will be an honour.”

Initially MD of Aesculap, when the company merged with B. Braun Medical Ltd, Hans became Chairman and Group Chief Executive of the expanded organisation.

In his role at B. Braun, Hans has developed numerous growth areas for the company including safe infusion technology, homecare, endosurgery, high-end 3D visualisation, disinfection and home haemodialysis.

Based at Thorncliffe Park in Chapeltown, Sheffield, B. Braun Medical Ltd is a member of the B. Braun Group, for which Han’s is chairman, it is one of the world’s leading healthcare companies.

The business has 1,200 staff across the UK altogether, with decontamination facilities in Birmingham and Leeds, and 13 dialysis stations across the UK, 360 staff work at its Sheffield base.

The company recently achieved record UK group sales of £186m, representing growth of 5 per cent on the previous year.
