Actreen® catheters help David Drahonínský to get the best out of life in a wheelchair

One evening, sixteen-year-old David Drahonínský went to bed at his home in Prague - and woke up next morning in hospital. He had difficulty breathing, and couldn't speak or move his hands or feet. His doctors told him he'd been sleepwalking, had fallen from a third-floor window, and was paralyzed from the waist down.

David was confined to a wheelchair, and his life changed completely: no more football, no more hockey, no more taekwondo. But instead of giving up, he continued to work tirelessly at his studies, and discovered a passion for archery. Today he uses B. Braun products to help him with his often complicated life: his urologist has advised him to use Actreen® catheters.

David has regained his vitality, and provided impressive evidence of his determination by winning a gold medal in archery at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing and a silver medal at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. “I've learned that I can achieve great things,” he says. “But I have to make them happen myself.”

Paralympics Games: a great set of endurance for Kateřina Antošová

Only some years ago in 2012, the life of 47 years old Kateřina Antošová changed dramatically. While picking pears from a tree, she felt down and damaged her spinal cord. From this moment on, she was unable to control the lower half of her body.

Before the accident, she was very active and used to run on a regular basis: half marathons, cross biking, skiing and orientation racing.

In 2013 she began to follow a handbike riding training program six times a week.

Today, Kateřina Antošová is already a renowned Czech handcycling athlete. She won 2nd place in the European championship, took the 6th place in the world championship and is ranked 6th in the world. On Sept. 2016, exactly four years after the week she was fighting for her life in a hospital, Kateřina competed in the Paralympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro in both, “Cycling Road Women's Time Trial H1-2-3 and “Cycling Road Women's Road Race” H1-2-3-4 1 finishing twice races in 9th place.

Kateřina is an ambassador for the Czech B. Braun CSR project “B. Braun for life”. Using Actreen® catheters and sets for her is the key to traveling and so continuing to participate in international competitions.
