Welcome
The World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Tübingen are pleased to announce this special fellowship program which is exclusively funded by an annual grant from Aesculap.
Each year 4 young neurosurgeons especially from developing countries, will have the chance to be trained in the whole field of neurosurgical techniques at the Department of Neurosurgery in Tübingen.
Program Information
The fellowship consists of extensive exposure to the whole spectrum of neurosurgical techniques including complex spine, functional, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, vascular, skull base, pituitary as well as the numerous translational research programmes within the Neuroscience Programme of the Department of Neurosurgery in combination with the Center of Neurology of the University of Tübingen.
The Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Tübingen is a large institution which runs a daily surgical program of 10-12 surgeries, or almost 3,000 surgeries per year. There is a Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit with 16 beds, as well as a close cooperation with the Departments of Neuroradiology and Neurology.
Program details are
- Duration of fellowship will be 3 months.
- Fellows will be provided with furnished accommodation.
- Fellows will be paid scholarship of € 1,250 per month.
- The Fellowship does not provide travel expenses.
- Candidates will be allowed to attend surgeries, conferences, workshops and other educational activities during the fellowship period.

January - March 2021, Imane Bersali, MD, Algeria
From January to March 2021 Dr. Imane Bersali from Algeria joined the WFNS-Aesculap Adult Neurosurgery Fellowship in Tübingen as our 37th Fellow.
Due to the pandemic restrictions, we are unable to welcome her personally at our Aesculap headquarter in Tuttlingen.
Nevertheless, we’re wishing her all the best for her future and hope she’ll make great experiences during the fellowship.

January - March 2020, Janvier Hitimana, MD, Rwanda
On February 7th, 2020 we had the pleasure to welcome Dr. Janvier Hitimana from Rwanda, our 36th WFNS-Aesculap Adult fellow, at our Aesculap headquarter in Tuttlingen.
During his visit he got the chance to learn more about our neurosurgical product portfolio and to get insights into our production.
From January until March 2020 he’s for neurosurgical training at the University Hospital in Tübingen.

Dr. Vahag Aleksanyan, our 35th WFNS-Aesculap Adult Fellow, visited our Aesculap headquarter in Tuttlingen on November 29th, 2019.
From October until December 2019 he will stay at the university hospital in Tübingen for neurosurgical training.

Dr. Al-Fotih cames from Yemen and he was starting his training in October of the university in Tübingen with Prof. Tatagiba. He is our 27th WFNS-Aesculap Fellow and we welcomed him on November 27th in the headquarter of Aesculap in Tuttlingen.

November 2010 - February 2011, Payman Vahedi, MD, Iran
We are pleased to name Paymen Vahedi as the first WFNS-Aesculap Fellow. Starting in November, he had been trained in the neurosurgical department of the University of Tübingen with Prof. Tatagiba. For this very reason, we didn't want to miss the chance to welcome him here at Aesculap.

Application Process
The ideal candidate is a young neurosurgeon from a residency training program or an equivalent program especially from developing countries who during her or his residency demonstrated good skills in microsurgery.
Furthermore, the fellows should have work experience of no longer than three (3) years after concluding the residency training.
