Zvolen Castle - This Gothic castle with Renaissance-era fortifications is located on a low hill neighbouring the south-facing section of the city‘s main square. The castle was built in the 14th century as a hunting lodge, in the style of an Italian city palace. The castle is listed as a national cultural landmark and it is a seat of Slovakia National Gallery.

Pustý Castle - This dominating historical landmark of Central Slovakia used to be known by the name "Starý Zvolen" until the 19^th century. In the late 12^th century, the castle was an important administrative center of the vast territory, nearly identical to today's entire central Slovakia.
