The Prontosan® Debridement Pad is intended to support the soft mechanical debridement of chronic wounds in combination with Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution.
View the case studies below to see the results after a single debridement.
Chronic Surgical Amputation Site
Chronic Surgical Amputation Site1
Medical History:
- Male, age 72
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Cerebral infraction
- Atrial fibrillation
- 4th and 5th digits on left foot underwent a fifth ray amputation due to PVD
Clinical Outcomes:
From using this debridement pad on a chronic surgical site, there is obvious improvements before and after application, revealing a healthy, shallow granular wound bed with complete removal of the excess slough and macerated peri-wound callus.
Bilateral Hyperkeratosis
Bilateral Hyperkeratosis2
Medical History:
- Male, age 78
- Bed bound
- Hyperkeratosis on both legs
- Pressure ulceration to bony prominences
- Strong malodour with high levels of exudate
Clinical Outcomes:
Using a single Prontosan® Debridement Pad per leg, an improvement to the overall skin condition was immediately visible. Effective wound healing continued with no slough or hyperkeratosis recurring to either limb on subsequent visits.
Pyoderma Gangrenosum
Pyoderma Gangrenosum3
Medical History:
- Male, age 35
- Pyoderma gangrenosum to the left lateral gaiter following trauma
- Wound present for 10 months
- High pain during cleansing, unable to tolerate effective compression therapy
Clinical Outcomes:
The Prontosan® Debridement Pad was immersed in a water/emollient solution. After the debridement pad was used, the debris was immediately cleared. After the removal of the debris, and suspected biofilm, the patient was able to commence compression therapy and the wound was almost healed in a total of 6 weeks.
Venous Leg Ulcer
Venous Leg Ulcer4
Medical History:
- Female, age 80
- Venous leg ulcer, to the lateral and medial gaiter of the right leg
- Hypertension
- Oesophageal varices with bleeding
- Myelofibrosis
- History of basal cell carcinoma
Clinical Outcomes:
The Prontosan® Debridement Pad was used (soaked in Prontosan® Solution) and there was an immediate improvement to the skin condition after a few minutes of debridement. The first wound continued healing, with no slough or biofilm recurring, and no deterioration; the second wound improved, with reduced slough and improved skin condition.
