Wound bed preparation
For rinsing, cleansing, moistening and decontamination of:
acute non-infected and infected wounds
chronic non-infected and infected wounds (e.g. vascular ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, including complex, recalcitrant wounds, cavity wounds, difficult-to-access wounds)
postoperative wounds.
thermal and non-thermal burns degree: I, IIa, IIb and III
fistulas and abscesses.
For intraoperative cleansing and irrigation of wounds.
For moistening encrusted dressings and bandages prior to removal.
The main ingredients are polyhexanide (PHMB) and betaine. PHMB is an antimicrobial agent, while betaine acts as a surfactant to help remove debris and biofilm.
Patient Population:
Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution is intended to be used by professional users or by instructed adults only. The intended patient population is adults and children.
Tissue tolerability and biocompatibility:
Dermatologically tested and evaluated as non-irritating and well-tolerated; painless; no inhibition of granulation or epithelialization.
The entire wound, as well as the surrounding area, should be thoroughly cleansed with Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution. For non-severe and acute wounds rinsing is sufficient. For chronic wounds, soaking the affected area with Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution for at least 5 minutes with a saturated compress is recommended.
Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution is a preserved product and has a shelf life of 8 weeks after opening. The bottle should be closed immediately after use to prevent contamination. The top of the bottle should be protected from contamination during use.
Yes, Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution may be warmed to body temperature prior to use.
*Do not use microwave to warm.
Both Prontosan® Gel and Prontosan® Gel X have the same mode of action and indications for use.
Prontosan® Gel: Available in a 30ml tube. Provides a thinner viscosity than Prontosan® Gel X, ideal for deep tunneling wounds, wound cavities as well as for difficult to access wounds.
Prontosan® Gel X: Available in a 50g and 250g tube. Provides a thicker viscosity for easy application, ideally to flat, large surface area wounds like ulcers and burns.
Indicated for cleansing, moitening and decontamination of acute, chronic and infected wounds and burns, including:
acute non-infected and infected wounds
chronic non-infected and infected wounds (e.g. vascular ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, including complex, recalcitrant wounds, cavity wounds, difficult-to-access wounds)
postoperative wounds.
thermal and non-thermal burns degree: I, IIa, IIb and III
fistulas and abscesses.
Prontosan® Wound Gel X is a preserved product that provides a sustained antimicrobial barrier and has a shelf life of 8 weeks after opening.
The tube should be closed immediately after use to prevent contamination.
The top of tube should be protected from contamination during use. Tubes that have come into direct contact with the wound or have become contaminated in another way should be discarded.
Prontosan® Debridement Pad uses microfibres which are able to attach themselves to even the smallest, microscopic particles found in the wound due to the structure of the millions of fibres - improving the ability to collect debris, exudate and slough.
Other debridement pads and clothes may use normal monofilament fibres which are larger may not pick up these microscopic particles, leaving potential debris in the wound.
Yes, Prontosan® Debridement Pad can be used in the presence of emollients.
Due to the structure of the microfibres the debridement action is not hindered or clogged meaning removal of emollient from the surrounding skin prior to debridement is not necessary.
Remove the old wound dressing.
Perform debridement:
The unmarked side of the pad is moistened with Prontosan® wound irrigation solution or, if not available, with saline solution or distilled water. If local guidelines exist, these must be observed.
Applying gentle pressure, wipe the moistened side over the wound and/or adjacent skin in a circular motion. Following debridement, it is advisable to irrigate the wound thoroughly for a second time with Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution and to continue with standard treatment.
Yes, Prontosan® can be used on the surrounding skin, peri-wound and wound bed.
